Thoughts about "Nineteen Eighty-Four" by George Orwell
I was lying awake in my bed when the thought occurred to me that we are as far from 1984 as when George Orwell wrote Nineteen Eighty-Four.
Mr. Orwell came up with that title by reversing the last two digits of the year when he wrote the book, 1948. We have come a long way since the book was written and the year 1984. Fortunately, most of Mr. Orwell's predictions have not come true, at least in the U.S. True, there are some countries that do have a sort of Big Brother, but even China has relaxed their totalitarian rule to an extent. The only country, in my mind, that fits his model would be North Korea, but even they are finding it hard to keep to that model in this day and age.
See what happens when you can't fall back to sleep.
